Tabletop exercise in the harbour
On May the 6th all emergency services and The Tall Ships Races Ålesund organized a tabletop exercise in Brosundet.
With the scene set in the inner harbour of Brosundet with a scenario of a fire in a small boat, injured people and people in the water - all emergency services in Ålesund and The Tall Ships Races Ålesund tested their ability to respond to this simulated event.
Lifeboat "Emmy Dyvi" was on hand, along with police boats, a number of other boats that were moored and emergency vehicles coming to and from the scene.
Population alert via SMS
In connection with the tabletop exercise, Ålesund Municipality tested their UMS-alert via SMS. Messages about the exercise went out to 45.000 cell phones in the city center area before and after the exercise was completed.
96% of those who received the forecast got the SMS. Project Manager of The Tall Ships Races Ålesund, Albert Gjørtz, can say himself satisfied with the results given by the alert system.
- When this amount of people are notified about the exercise or happening events in an area, and the remaining as well, it will able people to take necessary precautions.
He can also add that he is in contact with the manufacturer to see if the system has potential for improvement.
